Trigeminal Neuralgia

Taking Steps Towards Being Medication Free

I have been on medication for my Trigeminal Neuralgia, this time, for a year. I’ve been on it in total for almost two years and I’ve had TN for three years. When I think about it like that, I’ve managed without medication for a third of the time I’ve been ill, which is pretty good.

The side effects of the medications have always been something I’ve struggled with, especially the fatigue (my God, the fatigue!) and, recently, the weight gain.

I’m currently down to 50mg pregabalin twice daily and I’m not taking anything else. I’ve taken the odd cocodamol and I’ve completely cut out amitriptyline, so I think I’m doing well so far.

Coming off medication is so difficult and weaning myself off this time feels like hell on earth, but I’m looking forward to being side effect free! My next step is 25mg pregabalin twice daily, then 25mg at bedtime and the nothing.. Fingers crossed!

Let me know your thoughts.. ♡
