A couple of weeks ago on a Friday, I finished work at 6pm and my fiance picked me up and announced he was taking me out. We don’t have a lot of spare money at the moment, because we’re planning a wedding and also want to do our house up, but it’s still important for us to put a little money aside and take the time for ourselves for dates. My favourite dates are actually the ones that are cheap or free! We’ve had some lovely expensive dates too, but right now, whilst we’re saving, I think I enjoy a date more knowing that it is well within budget!
Go for a walk
You can find plenty of free places to walk anywhere. We like walking around country parks, but you could also just go for a walk around your local city if you prefer. Put a few pounds aside for a drink at the end of your walk and this makes the perfect almost free date! We like to find out walk ideas just by Googling around and seeing nice parks a short drive away. Occasionally, if we see a National Trust walk we like the look of, we’ll even shell out the £8 for parking or the entry free!
Play a board game
We are the biggest board game nerds you could imagine! Think bigger than a game of Cluedo or Monopoly.. We’ll play a huge German board game that takes about 45 minutes to set up and three hours to play. I like to settle at the dining room table with drinks, snacks, a fluffy throw and spend the evening with my love, fighting over who’s winning.
Do an indoor picnic
I love rainy days.. if I’m inside! If we’re having a day in and the weather is rubbish, there’s nothing cuter than having a little ‘make do’ picnic style lunch inside. We make our own wraps, we have crisps and coleslaw.. and we don’t even have to step outside!
Visit a food festival
I personally love visiting a food festival. You can wander around the markets, eat free samples and usually even treat yourself to a cocktail or two! This is one of those dates where you can spend as much or as little money as you like. At the last Christmas market we went to, we spent about £40, but at the last local market we went to, we only spent £10 on a massive bag of chorizo.
Visit a museum
This is something I’d like to do more often. Museums are usually completely free, but we do often make a donation to the upkeep when we visit. I find nothing more amazing than walking around a museum, as I’m obsessed with history, especially anything Roman or to do with dinosaurs!
Play mini golf
We found a really cute mini golf court in Bolton town centre for only £4.50 each, which was amazing for our budget and we had the whole place to ourselves, because no one else must have fancied it on a Friday night (which is fantastic for us, as we don’t have children and it was nice to have the place to ourselves)! I was absolutely rubbish, but I will definitely be going again.
Please let me know your cheap date ideas! ♡
