I, on the other hand, get given a diagnosis for something incurable and say 'okay, that's annoying' and carry on with my day. My plate is absolutely massive.
I've been miserable before because of my health, but this was something else - l osing your sight is pretty scary! I've learned to cope with pain, but I'm not used to feeling so vulnerable and partially sighted.
You were probably expecting me to say that everything went black. It didn't. I got vivid rainbow hundred-and-thousands type floaters in my vision. Bright tiny little worms of colour, everywhere I looked, even if I shut my eyes.
I'm not disabled, I just do things a little differently, because I have to and that's okay!
Then my entire face went numb.
I used to be a massive 'pill shamer'. I sneered at people taking painkillers for their headaches, or period pains. When I had any kind of pain, I used to live by the view that pain was there to tell us that something was wrong and, therefore, a good thing.
You only get one life and mine happens to come with constant face pain. What are you celebrating today?
